Founded in 28 November 1928 as a Voetballbond Indonesia Jakarta (VIJ) and then change as PERSIJA in 1950. Having the nickname Macan Kemayoran, Persija is a football team in Indonesia with a long historical background as well as being the most successful club in the PSSI competition with a collection of 11 championship titles. In addition to the history that has made Persija the club with the most trophies in Indonesia, from the audience side, Persija also often sets records. A total of 413,152 watched the Persija match live at the stadium during 2019 season. This number is the highest in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Persija also broke the record for the number of spectators while competing in the AFC Cup. During the 2018 match against Johor Darul Ta'zim, 60,157 people were present at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. Persija also focuses on developing Indonesian youth football and won the best Academy award in 2019 and 2021 season.
